Across Europe, cannabis policy remains fragmented, and real progress depends on elevating lived‑experience alongside evidence‑based reform.

Speaking on Policy In Practice: From Workplace Testing to Driving - How Does UK Law Impact Patients?

Sal Aziz is the Director of PatientsCann UK and the Disability Officer of the UTAW union, advocating for equitable access, patient rights, and stronger protections for disabled people, including those who rely on medical cannabis. His work focuses on bridging the gap between lived experience, clinical practice, and public policy to ensure that patient needs are properly represented in national debates.

Sal collaborates with the NHS to highlight barriers within current policies and to support better training and understanding around cannabis‑based treatments. He engages with Police forces across the UK, helping shape consistent approaches to law enforcement so that legally prescribed patients are not unfairly criminalised or disadvantaged. He also works directly with trade unions, supporting workplace rights for medical cannabis patients, and advises both local authorities and national government on regulatory issues, patient challenges, and opportunities for patient‑centred reform.

Driven by a commitment to social justice and practical policy change, Sal works to ensure that disabled people and chronic illness communities have a meaningful voice in how the UK develops its medical cannabis framework.
